Flora-Bama Mullet Toss Update

Just to prove that there are some true religious dumbasses in the world, especially in Mobile, Ala., get this letter to the editor in the Mobile Register:

Reverence for Flora-Bama embarrassing

A caller said Alabamians were rude and crude and behind the times. A perfect example of this is the big deal they made out of tearing down what was left of the Flora-Bama beer joint. You would have thought it was a church service. It is so embarrassing to hear these people revering this place. And I have lived in Alabama all my life.

Well, Mr. anonymous, there are some of us from Alabama who have seen other places in the world and think there should be more bars than churches - not the other way around. To those of us who know it well, the Flora-Bama Roadhouse Lounge is the best damn beach bar in the world. A place where you could revel in nature and in the company of good people. As such, it is perhaps a more spiritual place than the inside of any church we've ever seen.

Then, since I'm not finding any good stories written about the Mullet Toss online yet, here's this, in case you missed it.

Hundreds Watch as Flora-Bama Gets Smashed

"Badly damaged and filled with sand by Hurricane Ivan, the ramshackle but iconic roadhouse at the Alabama-Florida line was demolished before hundreds of domestic-beer clutching onlookers," the Mobile Register reported.

Some even cried.
