Could the Siegelman, Scrushy Trial Jury Be Hung?

Could the jury be hung in the federal government trial of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman and deposed HealthSouth founder Richard Scrushy after five days of deliberations? It looks like it, according to an Associated Press story just out.

Is it possible that the Bush Justice Department's strategy of trying Siegelman and Scrushy together may backfire, since the case is too complicated to sort out with a 34-count indictment against four defendants? Maybe.

The federal prosecutors, led by Alberto Gonzales and Middle District Prosecutor Leura Canary (wife of Bob Riley's advisor and former campaign manager) may very well not care whether there is a conviction or not.
There seems to have been no evidence whatsoever of corruption.

It was and is a political trial. It was targeted to extend past the election day, which it did. It is further a part of the show trials of Democrats, especially black Democrats, which began in the Reagan administration and continued full force through Bush I.

In the Reagan-Bush show trials, only about 5% were convicted, which is just random.

These are show trials, just like the Stalin and Hitler show trials.

This is fascism, American style...
